How Banjaxed began

Banjaxed Records is the shared dream of long-time friends and collaborators Oisin Hannigan and Noah Sullivan. The idea to open a studio together was born several years ago while sitting on a red couch late at night and mulling over a glass of whiskey. After many years of dreaming and scheming late into the night, the pair finally found a home for this dream in Studio A of the historic Karisma Audio building in Montreal.

Since opening our doors in 2022 we have been working tirelessly to serve as diverse a client base as possible in many different mediums. From records, EPs, & singles to feature films, music videos, theatre projects, and festivals, we are passionate about bringing projects to life in a relaxed and creative environment.

A bit about the space

The live room provides 900 sqf of tracking space with natural light and an isolation booth making it perfect for accommodating large ensembles and working live off the floor. The studio has flexible acoustics that can range from “dead” to “lively” and provide that depth of sound and natural ambiance that only a larger space can provide.

This is complemented with a 500 sqf control room centered around a vintage Ward-Beck Systems mixing console and modern and vintage audio processing options. The control room provides an accurate and musical monitoring environment which mixes translate from extremely well. The wooden paneling throughout the studio provides a cozy atmosphere and gives a retro look to this classic studio.

  • Oisín Hannigan Percussionist

    Oisín Hannigan

    OWNER / PRODUCER / COMPOSER

Oisín Hannigan is a young but experienced percussionist and clinician/teacher based out of Montréal with a particular talent and love for all things struck. Having two full-time touring musicians as parents led to Oisín starting to play the bodhrán at just 1 year of age. After he started performing on stage alongside his parents, he then diligently started to study, practice, and finely hone his craft from the young age of 4 years old.

Specialising primarily in frame drums from Ireland and the Middle East, Oisín has eagerly pursued many different styles of music from across the globe. His branching out from traditional Irish music started when he got his first radio aged 4, and got hooked on the local Arabic music station. It was around this time that he started listening to works from the likes of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ali Farka Touré, Fairuz, Rachid Taha, and many, many others.

In the past, he has worked and performed with musicians such as The Chieftains, Tim Edey, Divine Brown, Paul Beaubrun, Rich Brown, and Anh Fung. He is currently working on projects with Aubrey Dayle, George Crotty, Cairdeas, Annie Sumi, and A Small Wee Band. He has recorded with people like Jessica Pearson and the East Wind, Annie Sumi, David Newland and Uncharted Waters, Jabbour, Jennis, 2Birds Band, and The Lifers.

Oisín has, to date, toured, played, and taught across 2 continents, 11 countries, and 100’s of cities. He has been playing for 20 years and counting, and has made his living by playing and teaching since the age of 16. He is currently endorsed by Shaw Percussion, a small frame drum maker based just north of Toronto.
